Ontario Warehouse Safety Signs — OHSA Compliance Guide

Ontario warehouses are among the most regulated workplaces in the province. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations — particularly Regulation 851 (Industrial Establishments) — warehouse operators must display comprehensive safety signage.

OHSA Regulation 851 Specifics

Ontario Regulation 851 for Industrial Establishments requires:

• Section 63: Emergency shower and eyewash locations clearly identified

• GHS pictogram signs at hazardous material storage areas
• SDS (Safety Data Sheet) location signs — workers must know where to find them

Penalties for Non-Compliance

The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development enforces warehouse safety:

• Fines: Up to $100,000 per offence (individuals), $1,500,000 (corporations)
• Imprisonment: Up to 12 months for willful violations
• WSIB surcharges — Poor safety records increase premiums
